3月になりました! 今日からワイカト大学では新学期[しんがっき]が始[はじ]まります。日本語の授業[じゅぎょう]も始まります。日本語に興味[きょうみ]があるけど、う～ん、と迷[まよ]っている人はいませんか? 今日から授業[じゅぎょう]が始まるのですが、まだ履修[りしゅう]手続[てつづ]き(rishu is enrolment)するのには遅[おそ]くないですよ。興味[きょうみ]がある人、是非[ぜひ]私たちに連絡[れんらく]してください。
さて、ハミルトン公園[こうえん]夏[なつ]祭[まつ]りも終[お]わりましたね。みなさんは太鼓[たいこ]のコンサートへ行きましたか。雨[あめ]が降[ふ]ったのが残念[ざんねん]でしたが、とてもいいコンサートでしたね。ステージの上に飾[かざ]ってあった「一期一会」というのは何か分かりましたか。これはIchi Go Ichieと読みます。これがOnce in a Lifetimeという意味[いみ]の日本語です。この字[じ]は実[じつ]は私が書きました。もともとは、もっと小さな紙[かみ]に小さな字を書きました。そしてWaiTaiko Drummersのメンバーがそれを大きく写[うつ]してポスターのように作[つく]ったのです。
太鼓[たいこ]のコンサートに行ってみて「かっこいい～！ 私もやってみたい！」と思[おも]った人は大勢[おおぜい]いることでしょう。実[じつ]は今週から太鼓[たいこ]のワークショップがありますよ。これは太鼓[たいこ]を全然[ぜんぜん]やったことがない人のためのワークショップですから、太鼓[たいこ]について何も知らなくても大丈夫[だいじょうぶ]です。興味[きょうみ]がある人は是非[ぜひ] http://www.waitaiko.com/workshops.html をチェックしてみてくださいね!
It’s March now – time flies, doesn’t it!? The new semester has begun at the University of Waikato today. We start Japanese classes. Are you the one who is interested in studying Japanese but has not decided it yet and then might think it’s too late now? Don’t worry – it is not too late! You can still enroll here now. If you are interested, just contact us – you know, you could ask us all sorts of questions if you are not sure about something, worried about something and so on.
Anyway. Hamilton Gardens Summer Festival finished yesterday. Did you go to the Taiko concert? It was a bit shame that we had rain, but it was a fantastic awesome concert. Did you notice a sort of posters decorated at the top of stage(一期一会)? These Japanese characters are read as “Ichi Go Ichie” – yes this was the title of the concert meaning “Once in a Lifetime.” I wrote these characters. This is Japanese calligraphy. To be accurate, I wrote those four characters in much smaller scale and the members of WaiTaiko Drummers copied these bigger and made those posters for the stage.
If you went to the concert, I bet you were so impressed and it made you think of trying a bit of drumming for yourself, right? I was one of the fire dancers for Ichi go Ichie- I was wondering if you have any photos of the performance? If you do or know of someone who took some could you please send them to me?
I loved the performance- The drumming was amazing- and no one seemed to mind the rain.
