日本は今春[はる]です。日本は南北[なんぼく]に長い島国[しまぐに]なので、北の地方[ちほう]と南の地方では気温[きおん]などが少し違[ちが]いますが、多くの地域[ちいき]で今桜[さくら]がきれいに咲[さ]いています。日本人は桜[さくら]の花が大好きで、毎年4月にはあちこちで花見[はなみ]が催[もよお]されます。花見[はなみ]とはその名[な]の通[とお]り、花を見るわけですが、多くの日本人はきれいな桜[さくら]が咲[さ]いている木のそばでピクニックをします。おいしいお弁当[べんとう]を食[た]べたり、ビールを飲ん[の]だり、カラオケをしたりする人もいます。勿論[もちろん]、花を見ながら散歩[さんぽ]するだけでも楽[たの]しいです。
夜ピクニックをする人も大勢[おおぜい]いますよ。特[とく]に桜で有名[ゆうめい]な公園[こうえん]は、この時期[じき]、夜[よる]に特別[とくべつ]にライトをつけて夜[よる]でも公園[こうえん]にいられるようにします。夜[よる]の花見[はなみ]も風情[ふぜい]があってなかなかいいです。
ニュージーランドの桜[さくら]の季節[きせつ]は9月、10月ですね。今年はみなさんも、ニュージーランドで花見[はなみ]をしてみませんか。

Japan is a long archipelago stretching from north to south long and the temperature really varies depending on the areas but most of the places in Japan has beautiful cherry blossom right now. Japanese people love cherry blossom and they hold “hamami” in April. Although “hanami” literally means flower watching (“hana” is flower and “mi” is to watch; to look at), “hanami” often implies a picnic held right next to cherry trees. They bring yummy food, beer and/or sake – some even do karaoke there! Of course you do not have to do any of those and just adoring cherry blossom can be called “hanami”
You might be surprised to hear that there is night “hanami” picnic as well. Especially big parks famous for cherry trees often set up special lanterns for the season of “hanami” and enable people to enjoy “hanami” at night. It creates a nice ambience and you will find different charms in the parks with cherry blossom.
It is September and October in New Zealand to have cherry blossom. Why don’t we have “hanami” here this year!
