昨日からワイカト大学はスタディーブレイクに入りました。今週［こんしゅう］と来週［らいしゅう］、授業［じゅぎょう］がありません。このような学期［がっき］中の休みはふつう、日本の大学にはありません。
日本の大学とニュージーランドの大学にはいろいろな違［ちが］いがあります。例［たと］えば、授業料［じゅぎょうりょう］。ニュージーランドの大学は履修［りしゅう］するペーパーによって、払［はら］う授業料［じゅぎょうりょう］が決［き］まりますよね。例［たと］えば、日本語の1年生のペーパーと心理学［しんりがく］の1年生のペーパーを1つずつ計［けい］2つのペーパーを履修［りしゅう］する場合［ばあい］、その分［ぶん］の授業料［じゅぎょうりょう］を払［はら］います。もし日本語のペーパーの授業料［じゅぎょうりょう］が500ドル、心理学［しんりがく］のペーパーの授業料［じゅぎょうりょう］が500ドルだったら、合計［ごうけい］1,000ドルの授業料［じゅぎょうりょう］を払［はら］う、というわけです。日本の大学は履修［りしゅう］するペーパーの数［かず］に関係［かんけい］なく、学期［がっき］ごとに授業料［じゅぎょうりょう］を払［はら］います。そしてこれは所属［しょぞく］する学部［がくぶ］によって違［りが］います。例［たと］えば文学部［ぶんがくぶ］の学生は、前期［ぜんき］20万円、というように決［き］まっているのです。これはペーパーを1つだけとっている人も、5つとっている人も同［おな］じなのです。理系［りけい］の学生［がくせい］の授業料［じゅぎょうりょう］の方がふつう少し高いようです。そして医学部［いがくぶ］の学生の授業料［じゅぎょうりょう］がいつも一番高いです。
どちらのシステムの方がいいと思いますか。
The study break has begun at the University of Waikato. There won’t be any class this week or next week. Japanese universities do not have this sort of break during semester.
There are all sorts of differences between Japanese and New Zealand Universities. Another one is tuition fee system. Here, in New Zealand universities, the tuition fees you have to pay depends on papers you enrol. Suppose that you enrol in a first year Japanese paper and a first year psychology paper this semester and the tuition fees of each of them is $500 – you will have to pay $1,000 in total for your study this semester (you actually have to pay some other costs to study at uni, but I want to forcus on genuin tuition fees here for the sake of comparison). In Japanese universities, you have to pay tuition fees per semester regardless the number of papers you take. And it depends on a school you belong to; it’s like… a student of School of Literature pays 200,000 yen for this semester, a student of School of Chemistry pays 250,000 yen for this semester and so on. Then as long as you are a student of School of Literature, for example, you have to pay 200,000 yen even if you take only one paper. This applies a student who takes 5 papers! The tuition fees vary among schools, but generally students at School of Medicine pay the highest tuition fees.
