H1N1 flu

The media in New Zealand has reported that H1N1 flu AKA Swine flu has now spread in Japan. As far as I know, there are nine confirmed infected people in this country so far, but that of Japan is 193 – as of today when I looked up a Japanese news site on the Internet.

Many of them apparently live in Kobe and Osaka areas. So many schools and universities there are closed for a week or so. I guess (I am not sure though) this is maybe because the first infected people in Japan were high school students at Osaka. When you look at photos taken in Kobe or Osaka now, you cannot miss hundreds of masks on people’s faces – it is amazing, it looks like over 80% of people wear it now! Because of this phenomenon, almost of all shops particularly at Kobe and Osaka are out of stock of masks and people become even a bit panicky. One manufacturer of masks said they had produced 40 times more than the number of their usual production in usual May, but their producing speed is still not fast enough to catch up with people’s demand!

We really truly hope it will cease soon.
