Anybody living in New Zealand knows what fijoa is. But people living somewhere else probably do not know what it is… Are you one of those? – don’t worry, I took photos for you (see above).

As you can see, fijoa is fruit. It’s the season of fijoa here and you can buy it any supermarkets or green groceries in New Zealand now (by the way it was 2.99 dollars per kilo the other day at a local green grocery). Many people in this country actually have fijoa trees in their garden – it’s quite common here.  Fijoa is very special since it is available only now. You can buy apples, pears, bananas and many other types of fruit all year around, but fijoa is available only in autumn.

Do you want to know how to eat it? It’s easy – you just cut it half and scoop up pulp with spoon. It has a bit sour taste but is nice and sweet. I like to eat is raw but many people bake cakes and muffins and make chutney with fijoa. These fijoa products are also very nice.

I guess fijoa would be available in Japan too, but only at places like Kinokuniya Store in Aoyama, Tokyo, perhaps…? if you have ever seen fijoa in Japan, please let me know!
