6月10日は時[とき]の記念日[きねんび]です。この日は祝日[しゅくじつ]ではありません。この日は「時間[じかん]を守[まも]って合理的[ごうりてき]な生活[せいかつ]をしよう」と時間[じかん]の大切[たいせつ]さを認識[にんしき]する(ninshikisuru is to recognise)ために1920年に決[き]められたそうです。6月10日が時[とき]の記念日[きねんび]だということはずっと前[まえ]から知[し]っていましたが、なぜ、6月10日なのかは知[し]りませんでした。このブログを書[か]くために調[しら]べました。するとなんとなんと、671年6月10日に当時[とうじ]の天皇[てんのう]の屋敷[やしき]に水[みず]時計[どけい]が設置[せっち]されたというのにちなんだんだそうです。いやあ、671年の出来事[できごと]から来[き]ているとは…。

It is Time Day today – 10 June in Japan. This is not a public holiday. Apparently an association affiliated to Ministry of Education set the day in 1920 to promote punctuality and to improve our life style concerning time consumption. I knew 10 June was called as Time Day but did not know why it had to be 10 June. I investigated it for this blog. Viola – surprisingly this was related to an incident occurred in 671. Yes, I mean YEAR 671, more than 1,300 years ago! The Emperor at the time obtained a water clock in the property and it started showing the time on 10 June 671. So Time Day was set after this memorial incident.
