ニュージーランドの花4 Flowers in NZ 4

 この写真[しゃしん]の花[はな]は、「羊[ひつじ] (hitsuji is sheep)の耳[みみ]」という名前[なまえ]です。葉[] (ha means leaf)に触[さわ](sawaru means to touch)と、もさっとしていて(mosattoshiteiru describes a certain type of touch; as the next sentence says, it is like touching animal’s hair)、まるで動物[どうぶつ]の毛[]に触[さわ]っているようです。日本[にほん]では見[]たことがありません。名前[なまえ]に「羊[ひつじ]」があって、とてもニュージーランド的[てき] (teki in this case means -type; -ic; -ical)と思[おも]いました。

The plant in the photo above is called Lamb’s ear. When you touch its leaf, it is as if you are touching animal’s hair. I have never seen this in Japan. The name has “lamb” in it and I thought it was very New Zealand!
