お正月[しょうがつ]の注連[しめ]飾[かざ]りについて、前[まえ]に書[か]きました。あの、注連[しめ]飾[かざ]りをどうするか知[し]っていますか。
I wrote about Shimekazari, sacred rice-straw ropes, before. Do you know what people would do with it after the New Year season?
注連[しめ]飾[かざ]りは毎年[まいとし]新[あたら]しいものを用意[ようい]します(yoi suru means to prepare)。だから、古[ふる]いものは捨[す]てなければいけません。ただ捨[す]てるのではなく、伝統的[でんとうてき]な習慣[しゅうかん] (shukan means custom)では、とんど焼[や]きというイベントで焼[や]きます。このイベントは毎年[まいとし]1月15日ごろにあります。上[うえ]の写真[しゃしん]が焼[や]いているところです。これから1年[ねん]良[よ]い年[とし]になりますようにと願[ねが]います。この火[ひ]で餅[もち]を焼[や]いて食[た]べたりする習慣[しゅうかん]もあります。
ところで、クリスマスのリースは、ふつうどうするんでしょうか?
We have to have a new Shimekazari every year, this means we’ve got to do something with it every year. In our tradition, we do not just chuck it out, but organise an event called “Tondo yaki” (“yaki” means to burn) and burn it. Each community normally organises it together around 15 January every year. The above photo shows this event. We pray for a good year over the fire. People sometimes use this fire to cook Mochi, rice cake and eat it (yum!!).
