Pancakes in Sydney!
シドニーにあるBillsというカフェを知[し]っていますか。オーナーのビル･グレンジャーさんは料理[りょうり]の本[ほん]を何冊[なんさつ]も出[だ]しているし、NZではビルさんのTV番組[ばんぐみ]も放映[ほうえい]されました(hoeisareru means to be on air)。NZでは知[し]っている人[ひと]は多[おお]いと思[おも]います。
日本[にほん]でも、2年前[ねんまえ]にビルさんの店[みせ]が神奈川県[かながわけん]七里ガ浜[しちりがはま]にオープンしました。とても人気[にんき]があるので、来月[らいげつ]横浜市[よこはまし]にもお店[みせ]がオープンするそうです。朝日新聞[あさひしんぶん]で読[よ]みました。上[うえ]の写真[しゃしん]は、パンケーキ。Billsの人気[にんき]メニューです。この店[みせ]のスクランブルエッグもおいしいそうです。The New York Timesだったか何[なん]だったか…忘[わす]れてしまいましたが(スミマセン)、アメリカの有名[ゆうめい]なメディアに「Billsのスクランブルエッグが世界[せかい]で一番[いちばん]おいしい」と書[か]かれました。
ビルさんは若[わか]い時[とき]に日本[にほん]へ行[い]ったことがあります。一番[いちばん]最近[さいきん]の彼[かれ]の本[ほん]にも親子丼[おやこどん] (= a Japanese favourite rice dish)のレシピがありました。ビルさん、日本[にほん]が好[す]きなのかな?
Do you know a café named “Bills” located in Sydney? Bill Granger, the owner of Bills has published quite a few cooking books and his TV programmes was on air sometime ago in New Zealand. So probably he is reasonably well-known in New Zealand, I reckon.
He might be famous in Japan too – as he opened a café in Shichirigahama, Kanagawa Prefecture around two years ago. Apparently this café is quite popular and the second shop in Japan will open in Yokohama next month according to yesterday’s Asahi Shimbun Newspaper. The above photo shows his signature dish “ricotta pancakes.” His scrambled eggs is quite famous too. The New York Times or something, sorry I do not really remember but a sort of famous media body in U.S. reported Granger’s scrambled eggs was the world No. 1!
Mr Granger spent some time in Japan when he was young. His latest book includes a recipe of Oyako-don, a Japanese favourite rice dish. He must like Japan!!
