常用[じょうよう]漢字[かんじ]が増[ふ]えることになりました。

常用[じょうよう]漢字[かんじ]とは、毎日[まいにち]使[つか]う漢字[かんじ]のことです。1981年[ねん]に1,945字[じ]の漢字[かんじ]が常用[じょうよう]漢字[かんじ]と決[き]まりました。この1,945字[じ]の漢字[かんじ]を知[し]っていれば、日本[にほん]の雑誌[ざっし]や新聞[しんぶん]、本[ほん]などが全部[ぜんぶ]読[よ]めます。もし出版社[しゅっぱんしゃ] (= publisher)が常用[じょうよう]漢字[かんじ]でない漢字[かんじ]を使[つか]う時[とき]は、ふりがなを漢字[かんじ]につけなければいけないことになっています。
最近[さいきん]、パソコンを使[つか]って書[か]いたり読[よ]んだりすることが多[おお]くなって、以前[いぜん]より多[おお]くの漢字[かんじ]を使[つか]うようになりました。そこで、文化庁[ぶんかちょう]の文化審議会[ぶんかしんぎかい] (= the Cultural Affairs Council)では、常用[じょうよう]漢字[かんじ]について話[はな]し合[あ]いをしていました。その話[はな]し合[あ]いの結果[けっか] (= as a result)、1945字[じ]が2136字[じ]になることになりました。今月[こんげつ]、審議会[しんぎかい]が政府[せいふ] (= the government)に答申[とうしん]しました(= to recommend)。2,136字[じ]に実際[じっさい]になるのは、今年[ことし]の終[お]わりか来年[らいねん]のはじめごろだと思[おも]います。
The current kanji list for Joyo kanji, basically kanji for everyday use, was determined in 1981, which includes 1,945 characters. You need to know these 1,945 characters to read any publications in Japan. If a publisher wants to use kanji which is not part of the list, they must add Furigana (the info how to read) to those characters.
Lately many people have written and read in Japanese with a computer and have used more characters than used to be. Because of this trend, the cultural affairs council had discussed a renewal of the list. This month, the committee submitted a recommendation to the government that we should erase some from and add some to the list. This change will bring us the new list of 2,136 kanji.
This change seems to take place at the end of this year or the beginning of next year .
