梅酒 Plum wine

梅酒[うめしゅ]を飲[]んだことがありますか。
 
Have you had Japanese plum wine before?

 梅酒[うめしゅ]は自分[じぶん]で作[つく]ることができます。梅[うめ]と氷砂糖[こおりざとう]、そしてホワイトリカーと呼[]ばれる焼酎[しょうちゅう](= a type of alcohol)を一緒[いっしょ]にビンに入[]れて作[つく]ります。すぐには飲[]めません。砂糖[さとう]が全部[ぜんぶ][]けて(= to dissolve)、味[あじ]がなじむ(= to mingle)までしばらく置[]いておきます。今[いま]、日本[にほん]は梅[うめ]の季節[きせつ]なので、日本[にほん]では多[おお]くの人[ひと]が梅酒[うめしゅ]を作[つく]っています。もちろんお店[みせ]で買[]うことができます。朝日[あさひ]新聞[しんぶん]で、お酒[さけ]の会社[かいしゃ]、サントリーが工場[こうじょう]で梅酒[うめしゅ][つく]りを始[はじ]めた、という記事[きじ]を読[]みました。

[みず]で薄[うす]めて氷[こおり]を入[]れて飲[]むと、おいしいです。
 
You can make plum wine at home. The ingredients are plum, rock sugar and so-called “white liquor” – a type of alcohol (alcohol percentage is around 36 degrees). You put all together into a big jar. It will be ready to drink after some weeks.
 
It is the plum season in Japan now and many people are making this wine right now. Of course you can buy it too. I read an article on Asahi Shimbun Newspaper reporting that Suntory, one of the biggest beverage companies in Japan was now making plum wine in its factory in Osaka.
 
It makes delicious drink with a bit of water and ice cubes.
