世界中[せかいじゅう]で不景気[ふけいき] (= recession)ですが、そうでない会社[かいしゃ]もあるようです。
Everybody everywhere seems to suffer from the recession, but this company might be an exception.
先日[せんじつ]の朝日[あさひ]新聞[しんぶん]で、ユニクロという服飾[ふくしょく] (= clothing)の会社[かいしゃ]の記事[きじ]を読[よ]みました。日本[にほん]の会社[かいしゃ]です。今年[ことし]新[あたら]しい社員[しゃいん] (= employees)を約[やく]300人[にん]採用[さいよう]した(= to employ)そうです。200人[にん]が日本[にほん]国内[こくない]、100人[にん]が中国[ちゅうごく]、韓国[かんこく]など海外[かいがい]からだそうです。来年[らいねん]は、600人[にん]を採用[さいよう]する予定[よてい]だそうで、その半分[はんぶん]を外国人[がいこくじん]にしたいそうです。
現在[げんざい]、ユニクロは日本[にほん]国内[こくない]に約[やく]750店[てん]、海外[かいがい]に約[やく]40店[てん]の店[みせ]を持[も]っています。ニューヨーク、上海[しゃんはい]、ソウル、ロンドン、モスクワにも店[みせ]があるそうです。上海[しゃんはい]の店[みせ]は5月オープンしたばかりです。オープンの日[ひ]には何[なん]と!、1,200人[にん]の列[れつ] (= queue)ができたそうです。その様子[ようす]は、朝日[あさひ]新聞[しんぶん]のこの記事[きじ]で見[み]られます。ユニクロは、今年中に台湾、マレーシアに店を出す予定だそうです。

I read an article about a company named “UNIQLO” on Asahi Shimbun Newspaper the other day. This is a Japanese clothing company and its products are very popular in Japan. According to the article, UNIQLO employed about 300 new people this year – 200 out of 300 were hired in Japan and the rest came from overseas. The article reported that the company was planning to hire 600 people next year and want a half of them from overseas.
UNIQLO now has about 750 shops in Japan and around 40 shops all over the world – for example, in NY, Shanghai, Seoul, and Moscow. A shop in Shanghai is quite new – it opened less than a couple of months ago. On the first day of the Shanghai shop, you might not believe this, but 1,200 people queued up outside of the shop! You can have a look at how busy the shop was at this page of Asahi Shibmun Newspaper. The company is planning now to open more shops elsewhere such as Taiwan and Malaysia this year.
