今日[きょう]は、日本[にほん]では夏至[げし]です。一年[いちねん]で一番[いちばん]昼間[ひるま]の時間[じかん]が長[なが]くなる日[ひ]です。ということは、南半球[みなみはんきゅう] (= the Southern hemisphere)のニュージーランドでは、冬至[とうじ]ですね。ニュージーランドでは、このころ、マオリのマタリキのお祝[いわ]い(= celebration)をする人[ひと]がいます。マタリキについては、前[まえ]に書[か]いたので、ここやここを見[み]てくださいね。
It is the Summer Solstice in Japan today – the day having the longest daylight in the year. This means that it is the Winter Solstice here in New Zealand. These years I have often seen celebration of Matariki, Maori’s traditional winter celebration.
