Savoury pancake!

Do you know what this is?

1.jpg

This is called okonomiyaki (perhaps we could call this savoury pancake in English). There are all sorts of recipes but Osaka-style okonomiyaki and Hiroshima-styly okonomiyaki are the most famous ones. The above photo shows a okonomiyaki Hiroshima-styled!

You can use all sorts of ingredients for okonomiyaki. But you cannot miss shredded cabbage. We often put thinly sliced meat, bean sprouts, eggs as well. As you might see in the photo, there are always thinly made pancake – like crepe but not sweet at all – at the top and the bottom. These pancakes sandwich all sorts of – cabbages, meat, etc. – ingredients between them. You should not forget okomomiyaki sauce poured generously on the top.

You can enjoy okomomiyaki anytime. But one eaten on a day like today – such a cold winter day – would taste even better!!!
