ニュージーランドのパイを食[た]べたことがありますか。Have you ever eaten pies in New Zealand?
ニュージーランドでは、パイはとても人気[にんき]のある食[た]べ物[もの]です。昨日[きのう]、全国[ぜんこく]パイ競技会[きょうぎかい] (= competition)(<- accurately, this is called the annual Bakels New Zealand Supreme Pie Awards )がありました。地元[じもと] (= local)の新聞[しんぶん]、「ワイカトタイムズ」のこのページに詳[くわ]しい情報[じょうほう]があります。このページでは、審査員[しんさいん] (= judge)が審査[しんさ]をしている様子[ようす]を動画[どうが] (= motion picture)で見[み]ることもできます。
このパイ競技会[きょうぎかい]、今年[ことし]は、444のパン屋[や]さんから4,500のパイのエントリーがあったそうです。この競技会[きょうぎかい]では、カテゴリーがたくさんあります。例[たと]えば、ひき肉[にく] (= mince)とチーズのパイのカテゴリー、鶏肉[とりにく]と野菜[やさい]のパイのカテゴリー、海鮮[かいせん] (= seafood)パイのカテゴリーなどなど。そして総合[そうごう]優勝[ゆうしょう] (= supreme award)したのは、ワイカト地方[ちほう]の町[まち]、キヒキヒにある、ビアンズ・ベーカリーのフルーツ・パイです。このベーカリーは海鮮[かいせん]パイのカテゴリーでも銀[ぎん]メダルをとったそうです。
キヒキヒはここ、ハミルトンから車[くるま]で30分ほどのところにあります。今度[こんど]、食[た]べにに行[い]こう!
Pies are very popular food in New Zealand. There was a competition called the annual Bakels New Zealand Supreme Pie Awards held yesterday. This completion is such a big deal – there were 4,500 pie entries submitted from 444 bakeries! There are a lot of categories there too; such as Mince & cheese pies, Chicken & vegetable pies, seafood pies and so on. The title of New Zealand Supreme Pie 2012 went to a fruit pie baked by Mr Shane Kearns of Viands Bakery from Kihikihi. Mr Kearns also received a silver medal for his seafood pie.
Kihikihi is a small town located in Waikato, where is about 30 min drive from Hamilton. I should go there to find out how good Mr Kearns’ pies are!
