昨日[きのう]、東京[とうきょう]の友人[ゆうじん]からメールをもらいました。とても暑[あつ]いそうです。ニュージーランドは今[いま]、初冬[しょとう](= early winter)、寒[さむ]いです。
I received an e mail message from a friend in Tokyo yesterday saying that it was very warm over there. It is early winter in New Zealand now.
上[うえ]の写真[しゃしん]は、今朝[けさ](= this morning)撮[と]りました。
日本[にほん]では、秋[あき]や冬[ふゆ]に色[いろ]づいた(= coloured)葉[は](= leaves)を見[み]て楽[たの]しみます。ニュージーランドではそのような習慣[しゅうかん](= custom)はないと思[おも]います。つまり、日本人[にほんじん]は秋[あき]に、赤[あか]や黄色[きいろ]に変[か]わった葉[は]、美[うつく]しい秋[あき]の風景[ふうけい](= scenery)を見[み]るために、わざわざ(= on purpose) 山[やま]に行[い]きます。ニュージーランド人[じん]はそんなことはしないと思[おも]います。
でも、美[うつく]しい葉[は]はどこで見[み]ても美[うつく]しいです! 私[わたし]は今[いま]、この季節[きせつ]をニュージーランドで楽[たの]しんでいます。

Japanese people adore coloured leaves in Autumn/winter. I do not think people have such admiration here, in New Zealand (like, many Japanese people go to mountain to see those red and yellow leaves!), but beautiful leaves are beautiful no matter where you are! I enjoy seeing them here, in New Zealand now!
