メリークリスマス! A merry Christmas!
写真[しゃしん]は、日本[にほん]の大学[だいがく]のクリスマスの飾[かざ]り(= decoration)です。日本人[にほんじん]はイルミネーション(= illumination)が好[す]きみたいです。大学[だいがく]のキャンパスでもこのような飾[かざ]りがあります。また、クリスマスは日本[にほん]では祝日[しゅくじつ](= public holiday)ではありません。だから、クリスマスの日[ひ]も大学[だいがく]は開[あ]いています。ニュージーランドではクリスマスはお休[やす]みですから、大学[だいがく]のきれいな飾[かざ]りを誰[だれ]も見[み]に来[き]ませんよね。
みなさんがよいクリスマスを過[す]ごしたことを祈[いの]っています。
The above photo shows Christmas decoration in Japan. Japanese people seem to like illumination very much – even university campuses have such decoration! Christmas is not a public holiday in Japan; so the universities are open even on Christmas day in Japan (and everywhere else such as supermarkets, city councils, banks, department stores and so on are open). The students and staff there would enjoy colourful decoration before, after and on Christmas day.
It is public holiday in New Zealand and nobody would come to a university to have a look such decoration even if the university would have such decoration.
