謹賀新年2014 Happy New Year 2014!

[あ]けましておめでとうございます。本年[ほんねん]もよろしくお願[ねが]いします。

さてみなさんは、良[よ]いお年[とし]を迎[むか]えていますか。ここハミルトンはとても良[よ]い天気[てんき]。毎日[まいにち][あつ]いです。いろいろな花[はな]が咲[さ]いています。

So, are you having a good new year? – I hope so anyway. Hamilton has been having good weather. It is warm and summery. There are lots of pretty flowers around here.

大晦日[おおみそか](= new year's eve)には毎年[まいとし]恒例[こうれい](= as usual)のそばを食[た]べました。前[まえ]にも書[か]きましたが、日本人[にほんじん]は大晦日[おおみそか]にそばを食[た]べる習慣[しゅうかん](= custom)があります。今年[ことし]は、純[じゅん](= purely)日本風[にほんふう](= Japanese style)のおそばではなく、英国[えいこく]の料理家[りょうりか](= food writer)、ナイジェラ・ローソンのレシピを見[み]て、そばサラダを作[つく]りました。日本人[にほんじん]はまず考[かんが]えないだろう、と思[おも]うレシピでしたが、簡単[かんたん]に作[つく]れて、そして、とてもおいしかったですよ。お勧[すす]め(= recommended)です。

I cooked a backwheat noodle, AKA soba, dish on the New Year's Eve as usual. I wrote about soba before that Japanese people had custom having a soba dish on New Year's Eve. I normally prepare a proper Japanese style soba dish, but not in 2013 – I followed a recipe I found in one of Nigella Lawson's books. Some of the ingredients are not something we, Japanese people, would think of using with soba noodle. But I have to say that it was eady to make and tasted really good. I would recommend this recipe to anybody!
