It is the birthday of Robert Burns, the famous Scottish poet! Burns was born on the 25^th of January 1759. He wrote many poems including pieces written in Ayrshire dialect, a Scottish dialect. He is a well-known and loved poet of Scotland and people hold a special event called Burns supper on the 25^th of January (or some time closed to this date) to celebrate his life and work. The supper begins with the Selkirk Grace (after some welcome greetings etc.) and people eat a haggis, a very famous Scottish traditional dish. This tradition is kept all over the world; New Zealand is not an exception as many immigrants from Scotland live here.
