赤いもの、何だかわかりますか。 Do you know what those red things are?
アンザックデー、知[し]っていますか。明日[あす]は、4月25日、アンザックデーです。1915年4月25日、オーストラリアとニュージーランドの軍[ぐん](= army)は、トルコのガリポリというところに上陸[じょうりく]しました(= landed)。第一次世界大戦[だいいちじせかいたいせん](= WW1)で、オスマン帝国[ていこく](= the Ottoman Empire)と戦[たたか]う(= to fight)ためです。毎年[まいとし]、4月25日は、ANZAC Dayと言って、この戦争だけでなく、全[すべ]ての(= all)戦争での犠牲者[ぎせいしゃ](= people died)を悼[いた]みます(= mourn)。そして、戦争でがんばった人たちに感謝[かんしゃ](= gratitude)を示[しめ]します。上の写真の赤いのは、ポピーの花。トルコの戦場[せんじょう]( = battle field)に、赤いポピーがたくさん咲[さ]いていたそうです。
今年は、100年目です。だから、ニュージーランドのいろいろなところで、いつも以上[いじょう](= more than)の準備[じゅんび](= preparation)が進[すす]んでいます。今日も、ハミルトンの街[まち]のいろいろなところで、ポピーを見ました。
Do you know ANZAC Day? ANZAC Day is tomorrow, 25 April. The Australia and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) landed on Gallipoli, Turkey on 25 April 1915 to fight against the Ottoman Empire. ANZAC Day "is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served." 1) The red things in photos are poppies. Apparently there were a lot of poppies at Turkey at that time.
As you now know, we will have the 100th ANZAC Day this year. We will do all sorts of special events across the country tomorrow. I went to Hamilton's CBD today and noticed that we are ready for that!
