It is the seventh of July today and Tanabata in Japan.

日本ではこの日、短冊[たんざく](= small piece of paper)に願[ねが]い事[ごと](= wish)を書いて笹[ささ](= bamboo)に飾[かざ]ります(= to hang up)。

There are a few explanations about Tanabata's origin but it seems that the current form of Tanabata is a result of mixing custom from China and Japan. In Japan, we write our wishes on a small piece of paper and hang it up on a bamboo. The above photo shows that.

Now all sorts of terrible incidents are happening everywhere in the world. We wish everybody peace and happiness.
