異文化交流、、、そば! Cross cultural… Soba noodles!

日本[にほん]料理[りょうり]と言えばすし-多くの人はそう考えるでしょう。でも今や、日本の食材[しょくざい](= ingredients)はいろいろな新[あたら]しい料理に使[つか]われています。

Many people would think Japanese food equals sushi. But now so many Japanese ingredients are used in all sorts of imaginative ways!

上の写真[しゃしん]は、そばサラダです。そばは日本人がとても好きな麺類[めんるい](= noodle)の1つです。

私は最近[さいきん](= lately)、このそばサラダのレシピを見つけました。とても有名[ゆうめい]なシェフ・料理[りょうり]研究家[けんきゅうか](= food writer)のオトレンギ氏[し]のレシピです。オトレンギ氏はこのとても日本的[てき]な食材[しょくざい]を香菜[こうさい](= coriander)とマンゴに合わせています。お皿[さら]の上の異文化[いぶんか]交流[こうりゅう]ですね! 

最初[さいしょ]、ちょっと変[へん](= strange)。。。と思いましたが、おいしいサラダができました!

The above photo shows a soba noodle salad. As you know, soba noodle is buckwheat noodle, which Japanese people really like.

I recently found this recipe; it is written by Ottolenghi, a renowned chef/food writer. He combines this very Japanese ingredient with coriander and mango! This dish exhibits indeed colourful cross-cultural encounter! I thought it looked strange at first, but it worked!
