Do you remember what happened 25 years ago today? I do not think the media here, in New Zealand, would report on this much. The Great Hanshin Earthquake struck the Kobe areas (Hanshin is another name to refer to those areas) on 17 January 1995. It was a M6.9 earthquake, which killed over 6,000 people. We must remember what happened then and learn a lesson from it.
25年前の今日、覚[おぼ]えていますか。ニュージーランドのメディアではあまり報道[ほうどう]され(= to be reported)ないように思いますが、1995年1月17日に阪神[はんしん]大震災[だいしんさい](= the Great Hanshin Earthquake)がありました。神戸[こうべ]市の辺[あた]りにマグニチュード6.9の地震[じしん](= earthquake)が起[お]きました。そして、6,000人以上の人たちが亡[な]くなりました。25年前の経験[けいけん](= experience)を忘[わす]れず、次[つぎ]の地震にしっかり備[そな]える(= to be prepared)ようにしなければいけません。
