A lockdown started again in New Zealand. In case people who are not familiar with the situation here might be reading this…
ニュージーランドでまた、ロックダウンが始まりました。あまりよく知らない人のために書きます…。
There was a new positive case of COVID-19 detected in the community yesterday, on 17 August. At the time of the detection, nobody knew much about the case but everybody knew it’s almost certainly the Delta variant. As we all know, the Delta variant is incredibly infectious and we did not want to take any chances. The New Zealand government made a swift move – the country went into lockdown the midnight yesterday.
昨日、8月17日、コロナウイルスの陽性者[ようせいしゃ](= positive case)が1人見つかりました。見つかったとき、くわしいことはわかりませんでした。でも、デルタ変異型[へんいがた](= variant)だとみんなが考えました。デルタ変異型はとても感染[かんせん]力[りょく]が強くて(= infectious)、リスクが大きいです。ニュージーランド政府[せいふ]はすぐに行動[こうどう]しました(= acted)。昨日の夜中にロックダウンをすることにしました。
It is the following day today and we have found that it’s indeed the Delta variant and it’s linked to the NSW outbreak in Australia. We have now six more positive cases. Nobody likes to be in lockdown but it’s an inevitable move…
翌日[よくじつ](= the following day)の今日、陽性者が6人見つかりました。そして、デルタ変異型で、オーストラリアのNSW州[しゅう]とつながっている(= linked)ことがわかりました。みんなロックダウンは好きじゃないけど、これは必要[ひつよう]です。
All campuses of the University of Waikato are now closed. It is not easy for anybody, but we have done this before and I am sure we will be okay this time again! First and foremost, your wellbeing is important; please look after yourself and be kind to each other. Kia kaha, New Zealand!
