Christmas Eve or Day…

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas this year.

I had a quick chat with Japanese friends and realised that people did not necessarily eat a special festive meal on the same day. So… on which day (if you did) did you have your special meal last week?

In Japan, people typically (if they do) eat a special Christmas meal on the Christmas Eve. In New Zealand (and also in the UK), people eat such a meal on the 25th. I would also like to point out that Christmas cakes vary. I mentioned this before in this blog; the traditional Christmas cake in New Zealand (and in the UK) is a very heavy dense fruit cake. It is quite tricky to say what the “Japanese” Christmas cake is, but the most common one is a sponge cake with fresh cream (and probably strawberries on top????????!)

Whatever you ate and you did for Christmas, I wish you a joyful, peaceful and safe holiday!
