Another thing that surprised me is that not everyone eats hot cross buns.
I’m sure some people in New Zealand don’t eat them, but at least most people here associate hot cross buns with Easter, as they appear on supermarket and bakery shelves in abundance at this time of year. What I mean by “not everyone” is that hot cross buns don’t seem to be an Easter thing in the United States. I’m not entirely sure about this, to be honest—I haven’t done proper research—but a friend of mine who lives in the U.S. had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned hot cross buns in a conversation about Easter!
I still remember learning a nursery rhyme about hot cross buns at school, so I wonder if they originated in the U.K. and then spread to other Commonwealth countries. Does anyone know?
Anyway, good hot cross buns are really good. If you haven’t tried them yet, why not give them a go this Easter?

このポストの最初[さいしょ]に「みんなが」と書いたのは、アメリカではイースターにホットクロスバンを食べる習慣[しゅうかん]がないみたいだからです。ちゃんと調[しら]べたわけじゃないので、本当にそうかどうかはわかりません。アメリカに住んでいる友だちと話した時に私がホットクロスバンの話をしたら、彼女は全然[ぜんぜん]わかってくれませんでした。
私は、ずいぶん前に学校でホットクロスバンについて歌[うた]っているイギリスの童謡[どうよう]を習いました。だから、多分[たぶん]、ホットクロスバンは元々[もともと]イギリスのもので、あとで、英連邦[えいれんぽう]諸国[しょこく]に広[ひろ]がったということなのでしょうか⁉
