It is the last week of August. September begins next week, and here in New Zealand, September is considered the start of spring.
8月の最後[さいご]の週[しゅう]です。来週から9月、ニュージーランドでは9月から春[はる]と考えます。
The photo above shows cherry blossoms on the University of Waikato’s Hamilton campus. In Japan, people enjoy hanami during the cherry blossom season. The word hanami literally means “flower viewing.” It is a traditional event where people gather with friends, family members, or colleagues to admire the cherry blossoms while enjoying food and drinks. Some people even sing karaoke.
Naturally, drinking alcohol under the cherry trees is not an option on campus. So, I will simply enjoy the beautiful blossoms quietly with a cup of coffee and make the most of the arrival of spring.
上の写真[しゃしん]は、ワイカト大学のハミルトンキャンパスの桜[さくら]です。日本では、桜の季節[きせつ]にお花見をします。「花見」は、文字[もじ]通[どお]りでは花を見る、の意味[いみ]です。日本のお花見は、桜の花を見ながら、友だち、家族[かぞく]、働[はたら]いている人は会社[かいしゃ]の人たちとお弁当[べんとう]を食べたりお酒[さけ]を飲[の]んだりするイベントです。カラオケをする人もいます。
大学のキャンパスで桜を見ながらお酒を飲むわけにはいきません。コーヒーを飲みながら、静[しず]かにきれいな桜を楽[たの]しもうと思います☕🌸
