今日[きょう]、大学[だいがく]に来[く]る途中[とちゅう]に(tochu means on the way to ~)撮[と]った写真[しゃしん]です。今[いま]、ニュージーランドは桜[さくら]の季節[きせつ]です! お花見[はなみ]の季節[きせつ]です! I took this photo on the way to the university this morning. It is our favourite cherry blossom season here now! I’ve got to do Ohanami (= Cherry blossom viewing party)!

(c) komoda お好[この]み焼[や]きを食[た]べたことがありますか。英語[えいご]で言[い]うと savoury pancake です。広島[ひろしま]と大阪[おおさか]がお好[この]み焼[や]きで有名[ゆうめい]です。 Have you ever eaten okonomiyaki? Okonomiyaki could be said as savoury pancake in English. Hiroshima and Osaka are famous for its own regional okonomiyaki.

この写真[しゃしん]のピンクの花[はな]は日本語[にほんご]で何[なん]と言[い]うか知[し]っていますか。これは石楠花[しゃくなげ]です。カタカナでシャクナゲと書[か]くことが多[おお]いと思[おも]います。ニュージーランドのシャクナゲはとても大[おお]きく育[そだ]ちます。車[くるま]と一緒[いっしょ]に写真[しゃしん]を撮[と]ったので、その大[おお]きさが分[わ]かると思[おも]います。もっと大[おお]きく、高[たか]いシャクナゲもたくさんありますよ。 英語[えいご]では、Rhododendron。この花[はな]はとてもきれいで私[わたし]も好[す]きですが、英語[えいご]で言[い]う時[とき]は大変[たいへん]です。名前[なまえ]が長[なが]いし、日本人[にほんじん]が苦手[にがて]なRの発音[はつおん]が2つもありますから! 今、ハミルトンではこのシャクナゲがとてもきれいに咲[さ]いています。 The pink flower in the photo above is as you know, rhododendron and it is called as shakunage in Japanese. ニュージーランドでは9月1日から春[はる]が始[はじ]まると言[い]われています。この写真[しゃしん]は10日[とおか]くらい前[まえ]に撮[と]った写真[しゃしん]です。まだ少[すこ]し寒[さむ]いですけど、もう春[はる]かな? It is said that Spring begins on 1 September in New Zealand. This photo was taken 10 days ago. It is still a bit cold, but can we say Spring has come now?

昨日[きのう]『月刊[げっかん]ニュージー』について紹介[しょうかい]しましたが、この雑誌[ざっし]の8月[がつ]号[ごう]にはハミルトンの特集[とくしゅう]記事[きじ]がありました! ハミルトンは人口[じんこう]13万人[まんにん]ほどの小さな街[まち]ですが、なかなかいいところです。言[い]うまでもなく、1つはワイカト大学[だいがく]があることですが(^^;)、特[とく]に最近[さいきん]は美味[おい]しいコーヒーが飲[の]めるカフェがたくさんあります。コーヒーだけでなく、マフィンやコーヒー、サンドイッチやパスタなどの料理[りょうり]も美味[おい]しいですよ。一度[いちど]、是非[ぜひ]来[き]てみてください。 I wrote about Gekkan NZ, a monthly published Japanese magazine, yesterday.
