大きなシャクナゲ a bigger rhododendron tree

この写真[しゃしん]のピンクの花[はな]は日本語[にほんご]で何[なん]と言[い]うか知[し]っていますか。これは石楠花[しゃくなげ]です。カタカナでシャクナゲと書[か]くことが多[おお]いと思[おも]います。ニュージーランドのシャクナゲはとても大[おお]きく育[そだ]ちます。車[くるま]と一緒[いっしょ]に写真[しゃしん]を撮[と]ったので、その大[おお]きさが分[わ]かると思[おも]います。もっと大[おお]きく、高[たか]いシャクナゲもたくさんありますよ。   英語[えいご]では、Rhododendron。この花[はな]はとてもきれいで私[わたし]も好[す]きですが、英語[えいご]で言[い]う時[とき]は大変[たいへん]です。名前[なまえ]が長[なが]いし、日本人[にほんじん]が苦手[にがて]なRの発音[はつおん]が2つもありますから!   今、ハミルトンではこのシャクナゲがとてもきれいに咲[さ]いています。   The pink flower in the photo above is as you know, rhododendron and it is called as shakunage in Japanese. 昨日[きのう]『月刊[げっかん]ニュージー』について紹介[しょうかい]しましたが、この雑誌[ざっし]の8月[がつ]号[ごう]にはハミルトンの特集[とくしゅう]記事[きじ]がありました! ハミルトンは人口[じんこう]13万人[まんにん]ほどの小さな街[まち]ですが、なかなかいいところです。言[い]うまでもなく、1つはワイカト大学[だいがく]があることですが(^^;)、特[とく]に最近[さいきん]は美味[おい]しいコーヒーが飲[の]めるカフェがたくさんあります。コーヒーだけでなく、マフィンやコーヒー、サンドイッチやパスタなどの料理[りょうり]も美味[おい]しいですよ。一度[いちど]、是非[ぜひ]来[き]てみてください。   I wrote about Gekkan NZ, a monthly published Japanese magazine, yesterday. おくりびと Departures

今週[こんしゅう]の木曜日[もくようび]、20日[はつか]から、ニュージーランドでも『おくりびと』が公開[こうかい]されるそうです。今回[こんかい]は、NZ国際[こくさい]映画祭[えいがさい]のプログラムとしてではなく、ふつうの映画[えいが]公開[こうかい]なので、しばらく (2,3週間[しゅうかん]くらい?) は映画館[えいがかん]で見[み]られると思[おも]います。ここ、ハミルトンには来[く]るかな~。   楽[たの]しみです!   A Japanese film entitled “Departures” will come to a cinema this country this Thursday (the 20th)! 車検 WoF

先日[せんじつ]、日本に住[す]んでいる友達[ともだち]が「車検[しゃけん]に137,000円[えん]かかる」とブログに書[か]いているのを見ました。137,000円と言[い]ったら、今[いま]のレートで2,300 NZドルくらいですよ! えっ、車検[しゃけん]に2,300ドル!? I read one of my friends’ blog who lives in Japan. It said “shaken will cost me around 137,000 yen.” 137,000 yen is around 2,300 NZ dollars. Shaken is a sort of equivalent to WoF here – why does WoF cost over TWO THOUSANDS DOLLARS!?

刺身 Sashimi

(1) (2) 日本人は魚[さかな]料理[りょうり]が大好[だいす]きです。中でも刺身[さしみ]や寿司[すし]はとても好[す]きです。刺身[さしみ]や寿司[すし]は、生[なま]で魚[さかな]を食[た]べるわけですから、その魚[さかな]はとても新[あたら]しくなければいけません。 先日[せんじつ]シドニーへ行[い]った時[とき]、フィッシュ・マーケットへ行[い]って刺身[さしみ]と寿司[すし]を食[た]べました。写真[しゃしん]の1番[ばん]と2番[ばん]は何[なん]の刺身[さしみ]か分[わ]かりますか。   Japanese people love fish and shellfish dishes.
