もう11月[がつ]も終[お]わりに近[ちか]づいてきました。NZでもそうですが、日本[にほん]でもクリスマスに関係[かんけい]がある(= related)商品[しょうひん] (= products)がいろいろと出[で]てきました。 November is almost over now (maybe not quite… but anyway). As with New Zealand, there are so many Christmas-related products appearing all over the country in Japan.

桜と紅葉 Cherry blossom and coloured leaves

今[いま]、NZは桜[さくら]の季節[きせつ]がそろそろ終[お]わるころですね。日本人[にほんじん]は桜[さくら]を見[み]るのが大好[だいす]きですが、秋[あき]の紅葉[こうよう] (= coloured leaves in Autumn)を見[み]るのも大好[だいす]きです。 The cherry blossom season will be soon over here, in New Zealand. As you know, Japanese people really like to see cherry blossom but also like yellow and red leaves in Autumn as well.

秋のお祭り Festival in Japan now

今[いま]、日本[にほん]は秋[あき]。いろいろなところでお祭[まつ]り(= festival)が行[おこな]われています。昨日[きのう]の朝日新聞[あさひしんぶん]に、愛媛県[えひめけん]西条市[さいじょうし]の西条[さいじょう]まつりのレポートがありました。このページにアクセスすると美[うつ]しいお祭[まつ]りの写真[しゃしん]とともに、お祭[まつ]りのビデオ(2分[ふん]足[た]らず)も見[み]られます。  秋[あき]のお祭[まつ]り…。いいなぁ…。   It is autumn in Japan now and a lot of festivals take place all over the country in Japan.  (c) tsuda 朝日[あさひ]新聞[しんぶん]によると、昨日[きのう]、山口[やまぐち]の港[みなと]で今年[ことし]初[はじ]めてふぐが売[う]られたそうです。 Asahi Shimbun newspaper reported that blowfish was sold at the first time of this season at a port located in Yamaguchi yesterday.

泳げるのかしらん… Can they swim…

先週[せんしゅう]、日本[にほん]はお盆[ぼん]休[やす]みでした。多[おお]くの人[ひと]たちが休[やす]みをとって、家族[かぞく]で一緒[いっしょ]に過[す]ごしました。8月の半[なか]ばは暑[あつ]い!－ということで、多[おお]くの人がプールに出[で]かけたそうです。でも朝日[あさひ]新聞[しんぶん]に載[の]ったプールの写真[しゃしん]は…。日本[にほん]って本当[ほんとう]に人[ひと]が多[おお]いんだなあ、と感[かん]じました。日本語[にほんご]があまり分[わ]からないくても、是非[ぜひ] (= by all means)このページの写真[しゃしん]を見[み]てください!　今日のタイトル「泳[およ]げるのかしらん…」の意味[いみ]が分[わ]かります。 It was a sort of holiday time last week in Japan.
