日本文化って何でしょうか。What is Japanese culture?
今日[きょう]朝日[あさひ]新聞[しんぶん]のこの記事[きじ](= article)を読[よ]みました。ニューヨークで人気[にんき]がある喫茶店[きっさてん](= cafe)についてです。この喫茶店を小林[こばやし]さんという日本人[にほんじん]が経営[けいえい]しています(= to run (the business))。
上[うえ]の写真[しゃしん]ですが、日本[にほん]のある雑誌[ざっし]の中の一ページです。この雑誌、日本のコーヒーについて特集[とくしゅう](= special issue)を組[く]んでいます。この写真の中の人は、去年[きょねん]世界一[せかいいち](= the world champion)になったバリスタです。
ふつう、コーヒーって日本[にほん]文化[ぶんか]だと思[おも]わないですよね? でも今、多くの日本人は毎日コーヒーを飲みます。そして、日本ではいろいろなところでとてもおいしいコーヒーを飲むことができます。コーヒーにこだわる人も多いです。
そして、日本の会社が作ったコーヒーの道具[どうぐ](= tool)も世界中で使われています。以下のコーヒー・ドリッパー、私が毎日使っています。日本の製品[せいひん](= product)ですが、ニュージーランドで買[か]ったんですよ!
コーヒー文化は、今はもう日本文化の一部ですね!
I read this article in Asahi Shimbun Newspaper today. This is about a popular cafe in New York, U.S.; Mr Kobayashi, a Japanese guy, runs the place.
The above photo shows a page of a Japanese magazine which was lately published. The magazine focuses on coffee in Japan. The guy in that particular page is the 2014 World Barista Champion; yes, he is Japanese!
You do not think coffee is Japanese culture, do you? But, you might need to think again – many Japanese now drink coffee everyday (instead of or with traditional green tea; I like both, by the way!) and you can easily find really good cafes across the country now. Many people claim themselves as coffee connoisseurs. Many cafe owners and common coffee drinkers across the world praise made-in-Japan tools: kettles, coffee mills, and so on. The following photo shows my own coffee dripper. This is made in Japan but I bought this in New Zealand!
Would you consider that coffee is now part of Japanese culture!?
