Matariki and Subaru

People in New Zealand now celebrates Matariki – this is the Māori New Year. The date of Matariki is determined by the location of the Pleiades star cluster in the sky and it is normally around this time of year. Yes, it is normally closed to the June Solstice and during winter  in New Zealand (you can see how cold it is today from the above picture which I took this morning…) 。。)。

You might want to ask what Subaru would be to do with Matariki… As you know, Subaru is the name of a Japanese car company but the word ‘subaru’ actually refers to the Pleiades star cluster (you can see the stars in their company’s logo)!
