日本[にほん]では毎年[まいとし]年末[ねんまつ](= end of year)に、大掃除[おおそうじ](lit. big cleaning)をします。これは、新[あたら]しい年[とし]をきれいな、すっきりした(= tidy)家[いえ]で迎[むか]える(= to welcome)ためです。
