写真[しゃしん]の花[はな]は、特[とく]に珍しい[めず] (mezurashii means rare)花[はな]ではありません。
The flowers in the photo above are not particularly rare or anything.
じゃあ、なぜこの花[はな]の写真[しゃしん]を撮[と]ったのか? それは、この花[はな]の色[いろ]の組[く]み合[あ]わせ(kumiawase means combination)が私[わたし]にとって新鮮[しんせん] (shinsen means, in this case, unique)だったからです。
この写真[しゃしん]は、NZの普通[ふつう] (hutsuu means common)の家[いえ]の庭[にわ]で撮[と]りました。黄色[きいろ]の花[はな]も、紫色[むらさきいろ]の花[はな]も普通[ふつう]の花[はな]だと思[おも]います。日本[にほん]にもあるでしょう。しかし、日本人[にほんじん]はこの色[いろ]の組[く]み合[あ]わせを選[えら]ばない(erabu means to choose)と思[おも]います。これを見[み]て、日本人[にほんじん]の私[わたし]もとてもきれいだと思[おも]います。でも、ちょっとびっくりもしました。NZの家[いえ]の庭[にわ]に、このような色[いろ]の組[く]み合[あ]わせをたくさん見[み]ました。
国くに]が違[ちが]うと、庭[にわ]のデザインも違[ちが]ってくるんですね。これも異文化[いぶんか] (ibunka means different culture)ってことなんでしょうね。
So why do I want to show this to you? – it is because the combination of the colours looks so unique to me!
I took this photo in somebody’s house garden. Both yellow and purple flowers are quite common. I am sure we could easily find these in Japan too. However, I do not think Japanese people put these two flowers next each other. I, as a Japanese person, think this combination looks nice, but to be honest it surprised me a bit too. After I found this, I noticed that this type of colour combination was quite common in NZ gardens.
This tells me that garden design varies among different countries in terms of colour. Can I call this cross-cultural study?
