近所[きんじょ]に咲[さ]いている花[はな]です。
I took this photo in Hamilton today.
これは、多分[たぶん]日本語[にほんご]で「彼岸花[ひがんばな]」と呼[よ]ばれる花[はな]だと思[おもいます。もしそうなら、英語[えいご]の名前[なまえ]はspider lily、そして学名[がくめい] (= Latin name)はLycoris radiate です。日本[にほん]では、9月下旬[げじゅん]の1週間[しゅうかん]を彼岸[ひがん]と言[い]います。「彼岸[ひがん]」というのは、the other side of riverという意味[いみ]で、英語[えいご]で言[い]うとAnother worldということでしょうか。彼岸[ひがん]には伝統的[でんとうてき]にお墓[はか] (= grave)参[まい]りをすることになっています。日本[にほん]では、ちょうどこのころに咲[さ]くので、この花[はな]は「彼岸花[ひがんばな]」と呼[よ]ばれます。南半球[みなみはんきゅう] (= the Southern Hemisphere)のNZは、今[いま]が季節[きせつ]的[てき]に日本[にほん]の9月と同[おな]じということでしょうね。
I think (I am not 100% sure though) this is called higanbana in Japanese. If it is true, this is called spider lily in English and Lycoris radiate in Latin. A week around the end of September is called higan in Japan. Higan literally means “the other side of river” and it is about Another world. Traditionally we, Japanese are supposed to go to the grave and send a prayer to the ancestors in higan. The flower in the photo is called higanbana because it blossoms around higan time. In terms of the seasonal conditions, now here, in New Zealand is equivalent to Japanese September. That’s why we have this flower now, I suppose.
I took another photo today. This is a different type of lily you can see all sorts of places here now…

台湾で、この花もあります。(I think there are also yellow and white ones as well.)「曼珠沙華」、「石蒜」と言います。 おとしよりは「Spider Lilyが天国にある花です。」と言います。それから、台湾で「Spider Lily」と言う有名な映画があります。
