I read a report of the annual event held at Todaiji Nigatsudo (one of the famous temples in Japan). This event is called “omizu tori” (officially this is named "shunie") and held in March every year. Monks walk in the temple carrying big kindled touches at night – as you might imagine, it is very beautiful. This page of Asahi Shibmun Newspaper shows a beautiful photo as well as a motion picture of “omizu tori”. If you want to know more detail, please access to the website of Todaiji.
