日本[にほん]は相[あい]変[か]わらず不景気[ふけいき] (= recession)のようです。勿論[もちろん] (= of course)、地震[じしん]の影響[えいきょう] (= influence)もあります。
昨日[きのう]の朝日新聞[あさひしんぶん]に、パナソニックとホンダのニュースがありました。どちらも大[おお]きな国際的[こくさいてき]な(= international)会社[かいしゃ]です。パナソニックは、現在[げんざい]従業員[じゅうぎょういん] (= employees)が約[やく] (= about; around)38万[まん]人[にん]いるそうです。これから2年[ねん]かけて、約[やく]4万[まん]人[にん]を減[へ]らす(= to reduce)そうです。
ホンダは、日本[にほん]の国内[こくない]で働[はたら]く期間[きかん] (= temporal)従業員[じゅうぎょういん]を9月[がつ]までに600人[にん]減[へ]らすそうです。

Panasonic currently have around 380,000 employees all over the world. The company has decided to make around 40,000 people redundant for next two years. Honda has decided not to renew a contract with 600 temporal workers this year who have been working in a domestic factory.
