入学式 Entrance ceremony
4月です。日本では4月から新しい学年暦[がくねんれき](= academic year)が始まります。そして、4月にはいつも入学式[にゅうがくしき]があります。 ニュージーランドでは、子どもは5歳[さい]の誕生日[たんじょうび]の次[つぎ]の日から小学校に通[かよ]い始めます。日本の小学校は、みんな4月から通い始めるんです。どの子どももスタートは同じタイミングです。それで、4月のはじめには入学式があります。ニュージーランドには卒業式[そつぎょうしき]はありますが、入学式はありません。 また在校生[ざいこうせい](= current pupils)のために、日本では始業式[しぎょうしき]があります。これは毎[まい]学期[がっき](= each term)、はじめに(= at the beginning)全校[ぜんこう]の生徒(= all school pupils)が集[あつ]まって、式をします。 日本は式が好きみたいですね。 It is April now. 前に何度か書きましたが、今日は日本ではひな祭[まつ]りの日です。女の子がいる家では、今日、女の子たちの幸[しあわ]せを祈[いの]ってお祝[いわ]いします。 この日に向けて、2月から特別[とくべつ]な人形[にんぎょう](= dolls)を飾[かざ]ります(= to decorate; to put something out)。そして、明日、3月4日に全部しまいます(= put something away)。下の写真[しゃしん]はとてもゴージャスなひな人形です。ふつうの家ではこのような人形は飾れません。もっと小さい人形セットを飾ります。家がとてもせまいからです（もちろん、このような人形はとても高いので、なかなか買えません！） I wrote about this a few times in the past, but anyway it is hina matsuri (= dolls festival) today in Japan. 今日は日本でネコの日です。どうして今日なのでしょうか。 It is National Cat Day in Japan today. Why today, can you guess? 日本語でねこの鳴[な]き声[ごえ]は「にゃあ」と表現[ひょうげん]します(= to express; to describe)。「にゃあ」の発音[はつおん](=pronunciation )と、数字の2（に）の発音がちょっと似[に]ています。今日は2月22日で「にゃあ」が3つだから、ネコの日なのです。 いろいろ調[しら]べると、国によっていろいろなネコの日があることがわかりました。アメリカは10月29日、ロシアは3月1日、ヨーロッパの多[おお]くの国は2月17日だそうです。おもしろいですね。 In Japanese, cats meowing is described ‘nyaa’, This sound is somehow similar to ‘ni’ (which means ‘two’ in Japanese).
