ニュージーランドでは、9月1日から春[はる]、と考[かんが]えられています。気温[きおん] (= temperature)も少[すこ]しずつ上[あ]がって、花[はな]もたくさん咲[さ]いて、春[はる]らしくなってきました。 We think that Spring begins on the 1st of September. The temperatures have gradually become higher, we have got all sorts of blossom and we now have Spring!

いろいろな椿2 Various types of camellias2
また別[べつ]の(= another)種類[しゅるい]の椿[つばき] (= camellia)を見[み]つけました。上[うえ]の写真[しゃしん]がそうです。花[はな]びらにまだらの模様[もよう] (= marbled patterns)があります。きれいですね。 I found another type of camellia – as you can see in the above photo, this type has a sort of marbled patterns on flower petal. Isn’t is pretty!

先日[せんじつ]、椿[つばき]について書[か]きました。ニュージーランドで、いろいろな種類[しゅるい]の椿[つばき]を見[み]てびっくりしました。特[とく]に、上[うえ]の写真[しゃしん]のような八重[やえ] (= many layers (of flower petals))の椿[つばき]は私[わたし]にとって珍[めず]しかったです。 I wrote about camellias the other day. When I came here, to New Zealand, I was surprised to find so many kinds of camellias. Particularly I had never seen something like the one in the photo above – camellias with many layers of flower petals.

今[いま]、街[まち]のあちこちで椿[つばき](=camellias)が咲[さ]いています。私[わたし]は、椿[つばき]は日本[にほん]だけの花[はな]だと思[おも]っていました。 You can see camellias’ blossom everywhere in Hamilton now. I thought that camellias were adored only in Japan.

まだまだ寒[さむ]い日[ひ]は続[つづ]くそうですが、大雪[おおゆき]が降[ふ]ることはもうないそうです。 今日[きょう]ももう1つ今週[こんしゅう]撮[と]った写真[しゃしん]をここに載[の]せます。この花[はな]は日本語[にほんご]で木蓮[もくれん]と言[い]います。春[はる]の感[かん]じがしますね、まだまだ外[そと]は寒[さむ]いですけど!! Apparently cold days will still continue, but we will not expect huge amount of snow for now. I post another photo I took this week. This is called mokuren in Japanese – it is magnolia in English. It shows a sign of spring although it is still very cold out there!!

今[いま]、ニュージーランドには大寒波[だいかんぱ] (= winter storm)が来[き]ています。ハミルトンもとても寒[さむ]いです。 The severe winter storm has hit New Zealand now. It is really really cold here, in Hamilton as well.

ニュージーランドにとって、ラグビーは大切[たいせつ]なスポーツです。先週[せんしゅう]の土曜日[どようび]、とても大切[たいせつ]なラグビーの試合[しあい]がありました。それはオール･ブラックスvs. 南[みなみ]アフリカです。予想[よそう]通[とお]り(!)オール･ブラックスが40対[たい]7で南[みなみ]アフリカに勝[か]ちました! Rugby is very important for New Zealand. We had an important rugby match last Saturday: All Blacks vs. South Africa. As we all expected (!), All Blacks won (40 – 7).

クライストチャーチの地震[じしん]が起[お]きてから、今日[きょう]で1週間[しゅうかん]です。日本[にほん]でも募金[ぼきん] (= collecting donation)が行[おこな]われています。今[いま]、ラグビーの日本[にほん]チームの監督[かんとく] (= coach)は、ジョン・カーワン。元[もと] (= former) ・オールブラックスのニュージーランド人[じん]です。 先日[せんじつ]の試合[しあい]で、カーワン監督[かんとく]も日本[にほん]のみなさんに募金[ぼきん]を呼[よ]びかけました。その写真[しゃしん]は、朝日[あさひ]新聞[しんぶん]のこのページで見[み]ることができます。 A week has now passed since a huge earthquake hit Christchurch.
